Do I need to take a class?
No, our Clip’N Go program makes it easy to walk in, without any previous experience, and get climbing. Once you have tried climbing you may want to learn more about the sport and we have classes to help you learn the ups and downs of the sport.
Is it safe?
Any time you climb 35 feet up a sheer wall, there is risk involved. Adventure Rock works hard to minimize those risks while maintaining the essence of the sport. Safety is our top priority.
Do I need a partner?
No, by using our auto-belays you don’t need a partner. However, having one can add an additional level of fun to the sport.
What is Belaying?
Belaying is a term climbers use to describe the act of holding a climber’s rope to protect their falls. Our auto-belays are a mechanical belay. Eventually, most climbers learn how to belay.
How can I learn to belay?
Many climbers take our On The Rocks class. This is a one time 3 hour class that teaches you the basics of indoor rock climbing. It covers knot tying, belaying, double check systems, commands and technique. Reservations are required to take the class. Some people learn from their friends, other facilities or instructors. Any climber who would like to belay in our facility needs to pass a belay proficiency test administered by one of our staff. There is no charge to take the belay proficiency test.
Can anyone belay in the gym?
No. Belayers need to be over 12 years old and have passed our belay proficiency test. Climbers in our children’s programs that have proven their ability to belay proficiently may become belay checked in the gym.
I learned to belay a while ago and I just need a little help with my knots, can you just help me out?
Yes and No. Our staff does not teach belaying on the spot. If you want to climb, we suggest you utilize our Clip’N Go systems until have you the opportunity to take a belay class.
What’s with all of the colored tape?
The tape creates paths up the wall. Climbers call them “routes”. You try to climb up the wall by using holds marked with one color tape. Adventure Rock has routesetters that put up the holds and tape these routes. We are constantly changing our routes, so each time you visit Adventure Rock the climbs will be different.
Are there any age restrictions?
There are no age restrictions for climbers in the gym. Most of Adventure Rock’s classes start at age 5, however we do have lots of climbers younger that that.
